The unrest continues ...

The guns are probably paint ball guns, with plastic bullets.
Friday an e-mail was sent out to lecturers and others from the Executive Director: Corporate Relations. The message was clear. Due to unrest all lectures are suspended the next week. We will only resume on Monday 23 February.

This is of course not good. Those students who have paid there fees will have lost two full weeks. I do understand that students who are protesting often have reasons. Many of them don’t have funds to pay either debts or new fees. I guess some have used money for other reasons but I have no reason doubting that most of them really struggle.

It is still not good. Not for them, not for the others and not for the University. And not for the country!

But of course the Executive Director has reasons. On Thursday I met these security guards. And yes, I asked for permission to take a picture. In the guns they have rubber or plastic bullets. But still, their presence shows that the situation is tense.

This means I have will have an extra week for preparations and academic writing. I can definitely make use of that.

But it is still not good.

  1. Anders, what is the reason for the unrest? Why do students protest? It is sad, however, if there are reasons to the protests then I hope the University and students can solve the problems very soon.

  2. The students have financial problems. The University does not allow students to register for ht new academic year, if they owe too much money. This is the reason for the protests.

  3. As all others he won't have any lectures this week, which is unfortunate!
